To Train a Summoner – Part 6

For the next month, Eewok trained extensively with Ceciltaru.  Every aspect of a summoners duty was detailed out before Eewok, with a grueling training session to follow.  Due to the reconnection of master and avatar, Ceciltaru managed to keep Eewok’s attention on the training, with simple reminders and meditation times.  He still wasn’t sure when he should begin the battle training, but he was confident Eewok would master the training.

——

“Master,” Eewok said, looking up from his bowl of Windurstian Soup, “during the training sessions, I have sometimes felt an outside force exerting itself on my connection to Carbuncle.  Do you know what it was?”

Ceciltaru looked up from his soup with a slightly puzzled look.  “Well Eewok, as you know, the avatars are an extension of energy provided by the gods.  The force you believe you feel, is actually your emotions and feelings attempting to break the connection with Carbuncle.  Your previous failure, is subconsciously causing you to doubt your training.  You do not even realize this is occurring, and this bothers me.  You may not be putting your full effort toward the training.”

“Master, I do not doubt your teachings.  I am training as hard as I can!”  Eewok shouted.

Ceciltaru was shocked by his pupil’s yelling, but was happy to see the passion.

“Master forgive me,” Eewok said, his voice returning to its normal levels.  “If it is my emotions and doubts, then how can I succeed in battle?  How do I quiet these feelings?”

“In time Eewok, you will learn to quiet your emotions.  On the battle field, emotion can lead to victory or defeat.  You need these feelings in order to help you make the decisions, whether right or wrong.  But if your doubts take over, then your decisions will be clouded.  Sadness and anger can be good emotions to have, but do not let despair overcome you.  Failure can be a positive learning experience, but you have to forget why you failed.”

“I think I understand Master,” Eewok said, although Ceciltaru could still see some doubt on his face.

——

Eewok walked through the streets of the section of Windurst Waters.  He had left Ceciltaru at the dojo well over two hours ago, after finishing the final meditation session of the night.  He was still puzzled by some of the things Ceciltaru had said over dinner over about his feelings helping him making decisions.  If the doubts were clouding his choices, how could he get rid of them?

He walked into the Timbre Taverns, and sat down at a table in the back.  He scanned the room, attempting to discern adventurer from local.  It was like a game he would play, in order to maintain his reasoning skills.  After several minutes, he noticed a familiar Mithra walking over to him.  Felishia had been doing jobs with Arcon, while Eewok had been training.  Her smiling face made Eewok blush with excitement.

“Well hello stranger, ” Felishia said in a very seductive way.  She sat down at the table, and motioned for a waitress.

“Oh Felishia it is so good to see you!  I have really missed our talks,” Eewok said.

They stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity, until the waitress distracted them.  They ordered some drinks, and began excitedly talking about what they had been doing.  Eewok listed in amazement at the tales of adventure Felishia told, his heart racing with every word.  He was glad Felishia was having fun, and wished he could have been out there too.  As Felishia was finishing up her final story, Eewok’s smile, turned to a frown.

“Felishia, I have been having doubts lately about the training.  Doubts, I didn’t even know were there.  I thought the training was proceeding on track, but apparently, I still have much to learn.  I”m not sure if I’m really cut out to be a summoner.”

“Stop it Eewok!  Those doubts you are having, are not good for you.  Do not dwell on the bad things.  You have come a long way since that fight with Ifrit.  You can communicate with Carby again, and your training is almost complete.  Do not think about quitting now.”

“I don’t know Felishia, there’s still something holding me back though, I can feel it.”

“Eewok, there was something I wanted to tell you that day in Jeuno afte we got back from Khazam.  I’ve stumbled on the words a few times, and did not want to lose you as a friend,” Felishia said, tears welling up in her eyes.

“Its alright Felishia, I know.  I feel the same way,” Eewok said.  He leaned over to Felishia, and they kissed.  Felishia became less rigid with each passing minute, her body finally succumbing to the moment.  A moment, that both had wanted for a very long time.

“So, “Felishia managed to say, “where do we go from here?”

“I’m not sure just yet.  With my training, it will be hard to see you though.”

“Well, lets take it a day at a time, and go from there okay.”

“Okay, one day at a time.”

After leaving the tavern, Eewok walked Felishia to her home in the residential district, and kissed her goodnight.  Maybe these new emotions he was feeling, would be enought to silence the doubts.  Only time would tell.
